When it comes to Chinese zodiac signs, the dragon is arguably one of the most special ones and it’s not because it’s a mythical creature. In Chinese culture, the fifth animal sign in the zodiac cycle is known to be an auspicious sign because it is associated with power. Which is why we see Chinese emperors dressed in dragon robes — also known as long paos. 

Today, some of us still consider having babies in the Year of the Dragon as a piece of extra auspicious and joyous news for the family. Now that we're halfway into 2024, here's a look at the Dragon babies of celebrities who have already arrived and those we'll be hearing more about this year.

1. Stella Ng

This year, Mother's Day was especially memorable for former pop star Stella Ng. On May 12, the 43-year-old shared the first photo of her son on Instagram, announcing that she and her husband Jon welcomed baby Elliott that day.

In Dec 2023, she announced her pregnancy through an Instagram post that featured her, her hubby Jon and her 11-year-old son Ashton (from her first marriage). In the post’s caption, Stella, whose birthday falls on Dec 17, described her second child as her “best birthday gift”.

2. Desmond Tan

Local actor Desmond took to his Instagram account in Oct 2023 to share a piece of joyous news — his wife is pregnant with their first child. In an interview with CNA, he shared that it had been part of the couple's plan to have their first child within the first two to three years of their marriage. They tied the knot in Dec 2021.

The actor entered fatherhood on Mar 5 this year, sharing two photos of his newborn daughter's hands grasping his fingers. Fast forward to June, they recently celebrated the baby girl's 100th day, with the couple throwing a fun safari-themed bash that saw celeb guests like Zoey Tay, Jeremy Chan, Jesseca Liu, Chen Han Wei, and Pan Lingling.

3. Apple Chan

After the news of her engagement, which took place on a yacht in March this year, went public, the 35-year-old 'Ah Girls Go Army' star revealed on May 1 that she's set to welcome a dragon baby! She made the announcement with a video that showed her pulling out a cute baby's bib, and has since shared more posts of her growing belly bump.

4. Sora Ma

Following her pregnancy announcement in February, actress Sora Ma has candidly opened up about becoming a mom via IVF through two Instagram reels. ⁠

She revealed that she's an IVF mum, explaining that she and her non-entertainment industry husband underwent fertility tests last June and July. Despite the doctor's assurance they could conceive naturally, he recommended medical assistance due to her age (39) and her husband's (nearly 50). They married in October 2021 after nearly a decade of dating.

Regarding her decision to share her experience, she explained that she believed women undergoing a similar process might feel isolated. Despite the mental and physical prep, she admitted to still experiencing moments of breakdowns and tears.⁠ She details her experience in a second reel, which shows the injections she had to administer.⁠

She also held a gender reveal on Instagram recently, and is set to welcome a baby boy!

5. Ming Bridges

Ming Bridges first shared the happy news of her pregnancy with a playful series of pizza-in-bed Instagram photos: “Food baby… or real baby? #6months”. Her baby girl, nicknamed Ling Ling arrived in Feb 2024, and the singer-songwriter and entrepreneur uploaded a photo of her cradling her newborn after the delivery. They recently celebrated her 100th day with a bash.

The new mum has also not shied away from sharing truths about motherhood and her postpartum journey, from her postbirth belly to managing her emotions and figuring out the latest chapter of her life.

6. Fala Chen

Fala Chen became a mum of two in March this year!

The Chinese-American actress, 42, shared that she has given birth to her second child, with an Instagram picture of what appears to be her newborn son's hand clasped in her daughter's, hers and her husband's hands. A second photo shows her daughter with a bouquet of flowers, presumably to Fala's ward. She wrote, "We are now a family of four! Big sister was so excited to meet her little brother."

She tied the knot to French entrepreneur Emmanuel Straschnov, 41, in 2019 and they had their first child, nicknamed Little Minnie, in Feb 2021. The news came as a surprise as the Godzilla X Kong star had not revealed her pregnancy before. She told Hong Kong media that she nicknamed her newborn Mickey.

7. Cha Chung Hwa

Crash Landing on You star Chung Hwa wedded in October last year and fast forward to January 2024, the South Korean actress announced that she’s becoming a mother soon. Through an official statement, she shared that she’s “joyfully preparing for motherhood”. The 43-year-old's spouse is a non-celeb and reportedly a businessman who is two years her junior. They wedded with a private ceremony in Seoul in Oct 2023.

Chung Hwa has starred in numerous popular K-dramas including Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, See You in My 19th Life, Itaewon Class and more.

8. Hilary Duff

It's a girl! Hilary Duff welcomed her fourth child (her third with husband Matthew Koma) on May 3, 2024.

The star underwent a water birth for the delivery and shared the beautiful emotional pictures on social media. She also revealed the unique name of her child, writing, "Townes Meadow Bair, now we know why she made us wait so long... She was perfecting those cheeks!" She is also mum to Mae James, two, Banks Violet, five and Lucas, 11 (whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie).

9. Sofia Richie Grainge

Model and media personality Sofia Richie wedded her record executive husband Elliot Grainge last April, and it was a star-studded wedding held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in France. The wedding guests included her dad Lionel Richie, sister Nicole Richie, Cameron Diaz, and Paris Hilton, to name a few. In Jan 2024, Sofia broke the news on her Instagram with a series of beautiful photos from a photoshoot, featuring the mum-to-be and her baby bump.

Sofia and Elliot have since welcomed baby girl, Eloise Samantha Grainge, who was born on May 20, 2024. The influencer shared a black and white photo of her newborn's feet. According to Elle magazine, the baby's middle name is an homage to her Elliot's mother, Samantha Berg, who passed away after suffering complications during his birth in 1993.

The pair also threw a baby shower on June 8 to celebrate Eloise's birth.

10. Miranda Kerr

These days, Miranda Kerr has been busy building her beauty empire. When she’s not busy working, the founder of Kora Organics is occupied with mummy duties, especially after welcoming her fourth child, Pierre Kerr Spiegel, in late February.

This is her third child with Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel, whom she married in May 2017. The pair are also parents to boys Hart, five, and Myles, four. She shares her first son Flynn with ex-husband Orlando Bloom.

In a blog post, she has also detailed how she took an ayurvedic approach to her mental, spiritual, and physical postpartum recovery, including a type of lymphatic support called abhyanga massage. She added, "Additionally, I like to follow the Eastern philosophy that keeping my body warm allows for optimal recovery and hormonal balance."
