Makeup has the ability to make us feel better about ourselves, and the colours we use can actually have an effect on our feelings. For example, orange, red and yellow can boost your mood and energise while green, blue and purple can soothe and calm. So if you’re stuck in a makeup rut and are in dire need of injecting joy into your beauty routine, here are six ways to incorporate bright colours in your look as shared by makeup artist Lolent Lee.

The happy colour is a universally flattering shade, and the same holds true when you’re applying it on your cheeks. For a more subtle look, makeup artist Lolent Lee suggests using a peach blusher as a base before adding a hint of yellow on the cheeks.

Artfully applied, this unconventional pink graphic liner will inject fun into any look. Create brush strokes with a liquid eyeshadow or lipstick along your crease, where your black liner would usually go, for a head-turning look that will accentuate the inner and outer corners.

Red

You may already be sporting a red lip as part of your everyday makeup, but crimson looks just as good on your eyes. Dress up your red eyeshadow with a wing and top it off with individual lashes. To achieve that glossy finish, Lolent dabbed an eye gloss over the lids.

Blue

Just like your favourite pair of jeans, this shade is versatile and adds an unexpected twist to your makeup. Lolent recommends a bright and striking pop of blue like cobalt or sapphire to draw attention to your peepers.

Bonus: It complements every skin tone and never makes you look washed out.

Green

16/18

The simplest way to pull off a green lip tastefully is to add some ombre to the mix. Lolent created this Insta-worthy green-to-black look by coating the lips with a green lipstick, before applying a black lippy in the centre of the pout. Blend the colours with a lip brush to get that seamless gradient look.
