Dedicated a little time to yourself with one of these new treatments designed to bring balance back to your body and soul
By Karen Fong -
Did anyone else feel like they woke up and suddenly we’re heading into the last quarter of the year? What with the June holidays, the return to school and National Day all coming fast and furious, it feels like mid-year just whizzed by. With everything that’s going on for you and your family, don’t forget it’s important to take a little time for yourself. As an option for a quick escape, consider one of these non-invasive spa treatments that can take you away from life’s busy-ness for a little bit and re-balance your wellbeing.
From relaxing massages, to rejuvenating facials to a whole weekend dedicated to you, these treatments will get you feeling re-energised and ready to face the rest of the year.
This new facial from local facial experts Spa Esprit combines traditional therapies with some new-age cleansing, plus good old-fashioned facial skills for an all-rounded experience that will leave you feeling soothed and relaxed (and looking your best).
Beginning with the gentle sounds of the TingSha Bells sound ritual and a relaxing aromatic herbal compress, this facial dispels negative thoughts and energy as you focus on the gentle ringing. The herbal compresses use nine different herbs to further relax the mind and body. Their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties further relax and nourish the skin before a cleanse and gentle peel are applied ahead of light extraction. Once that is complete, a serum is applied before the therapist uses a traditional Gua Sha tool in deft, gentle strokes against the face to improve tightness and clarity and brighten the complexion, soothing puffiness and wrinkles along the way. The treatment finishes with a soothing mask and shoulder massage to leave you completely refreshed after 90 minutes.
The Gua Sha facial retails for $330 with a special price of $165 for a first-time trial. Spa Esprit has three locations at Great World, Raffles City Shopping Centre and Wheelock Place. More informaiton here.
If you’re looking for some spa time that can also get you results like a slimmer face without any invasive needles or chemicals, consider this ancient Japanese therapy brought to Singapore by Ikeda Spa. The Kogao Small Face Correction Therapy treatment is a version of Japanese chiropractic that slims the face by resetting facial muscles and bones for a more balanced, symmetrical position. It begins with facial measurements taken at the start of the treatment and a discussion of what to balance out with the therapist.
The treatment is incorporated into a facial including double cleanse, extraction and a HIFU face lifting mask so that your skin is just as pampered and treated as your face shape. While some have found the treatment to be relaxing, akin to a firm massage, it can also be a little bit painful as it involves pressure applied to various parts of your face and bone structure but results are instant and last for up to three weeks so it's worth it for those not looking to go the invasive route.
Kogao Small Face Correction Therapy retails for $450 for a 90-minute session. Ikeda Spa is at 787 Bukit Timah Road (Before 6th Ave) Singapore 269762. More details here.

Featuring naturally-sourced ingredients of which 52 per cent are organic, Spanish face care line Ayuna offers powerful results in a holistic, ultra-relaxing environment. In their collaboration with Freia Aesthetics, their Ayuna Signature Facial is an indulgent experience that restores glowing radiance and skin clarity through four rituals as part of the facial – these are orbis, stratus, core and vitae.
The treatment starts with meditation and scent inhalation (orbis) to create an atmosphere of calm and relaxation. Next is the preparation of the skin (stratus) for a deep cleansing ritual which creates a reaction that releases CO2 on the skin’s surface, triggering its natural reaction to send oxygen to the same area. This helps to unclog pores and minimise irritation, breaking up dirt and impurities as it happens.
This is followed by a manual extraction. Next is the treatment (core), where a personalised cocktail of powerful products is used to treat the skin’s concerns, along with an acupressure massage that treats the skin and creates added relaxation. This is followed by a relaxing face and scalp massage to further lull you into bliss. A double mask finishes the treatment. The final step, vitae, is the selection of appropriate skincare for you to take home to continue your treatment.
Freia Aesthetics is at Wisma Atria and Raffles City. The Ayuna Signature Facial retails for $420 for 105 minutes before GST. For more information, visit their website.
