Netflix has unveiled its new cast for season two of Netflix's smash hit series Squid Game. Headed by director, writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk, who snagged an Emmy for the first season, the show will have eight new actors joining the games.

The line-up includes rising stars and industry veterans in South Korea's showbiz scene, including former Bigbang member T.O.P (whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun), K-pop idol Jo Yu-ri of the now-defunct South Korean-Japanese girl group IZ*ONE, Park Gyu-young and Lee Jin-uk of Sweet Home, and veteran actress Kang Ae-sim (Move To Heaven, 2021). There's also Lee David (The Fortress, 2017), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon, 2022) and Won Ji-an (D.P, 2021).

They join the first batch of new actors, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun, who were announced during Netflix's Tudum fan event earlier last month. Season one's lead Lee Jung-jae, as well as co-stars Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon and Gong Yoo will reprise their roles. The production of Squid Game S2 will commence later this year.

The first season aired on Netflix in 2021, becoming the most-watched season of television in Netflix history with over 2.2 billion hours viewed. It also scored 14 Emmy nominations for Season 1, and ultimately bagged six awards, including lead actor Lee Jung-jae's historic Best Actor win.

The first season, which centres around players from various walks of life fighting to survive and win a huge cash prize while playing deadly games. It ended with the main character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) discovering that although he had won the prize money, his mother had died in his absence. He later decides to go to the US to be with his daughter, but before that, he sees the same man from the subway who first approached him to play the deadly games - and he's doing the same to someone else, and handing him a business card.

Gi-hun manages to steal the business card, and decides to call the number, ultimately deciding to turn around and not board the plane.

Will he decide to take on the people behind the games, which are continuing even though their creator has died? We can't wait to find out in the upcoming season.
