How did you celebrate Mother's Day? For a lot of us, it meant gathering with family for a lovely dinner and soaking up extra love from the kids with hugs, kisses, and heartfelt notes. Even celebrity and influencer moms in Singapore hopped on social media to give us a peek into their special day, whether it was sharing adorable photos or treating themselves to some much-needed pampering.
Being a mother is an all-consuming job. So when it comes to Mother's Day gifts and celebrations, what do mums (especially those with young kids) really want? As Singapore-based Chinese influencer Midi has so succinctly put it: To be alone.
In a hilarious video posted on Instagram, she shared her response to a question from her husband, who is Singaporean, about where she wanted to have her first Mother's Day dinner.
"I don't want any dinner. No need flowers. No fancy restaurant. Just leave me ALONE. "Take this little guy away from me for 24 hours," she said, gesturing to her son, nicknamed Xiao Jo Jo.
"I don't even want you. I just want me, myself and I," she continued. "You can prepare some drinks and cheese in the fridge. That'll be very nice of you. Or even book me a flight. Send me overseas. That will be perfect. Or if it's possible, probably two nights."
"Only dinner? How dare you."
From the response from fellow mums on her Instagram page, she's not the only one. "All mums want the same thing! We should all just go on a mums-only trip from next year onwards," said one.
From her Instagram Stories, though, she did get a night out away from her child after all. The influencer, who was in Shanghai, headed out to a club on the evening of Mother's Day with her friend and her husband.
The veteran actress spent the special day in the company of her loved ones: her husband Zheng Ge Ping, daughter Tay Ying, son Calvert Tay, and chef Wu Si Han, whom Tay Ying is dating. Judging from the fact that Si Han was donning an apron, we’re guessing they had the celebration at Italian restaurant Supply & Demand, where Si Han works. Nothing beats food enjoyed in the company of – and cooked by – your loved ones.
Xiang Yun had an early Mother’s Day celebration with her husband Edmund Chen and daughter Chen Yi Xin the night before, where they went for sushi. It seems like she was supposed to go for Part 2, where Yi Xin would take her to pamper herself at a Chanel facial, but she couldn’t make it due to conflicting schedules. Shoutout to all the hardworking mamas who are hustling even on Mother’s Day!
Not going to lie, we always look forward to Yvonne’s posts whenever there’s an occasion because she never fails to impress us with her cute family photos and culinary skills. For Mother’s Day, however, she hung up her apron – as she rightfully should.
“Mother’s Day spent not cooking and baking today," she captioned a photo of her family of four. She also received a basket of flowers with a stuffed bunny, with a note signed off by her kids.
The mother of two had a sweet surprise of tulips gifted by her husband on Mother’s Day, but the mama was hard at work before that! She has a business venture, Makers Inc. Studio, where she rents out space for events and photography. For Mother’s Day, they did up the space for a mother photoshoot, and invited Nellie, Beatrice Tan and Shine Koh for a shoot with their kiddos. We love mummies supporting mummies!
Constance’s gifts from her daughters were a very sweet handmade card, and box adorned with the words, “Take a break, you deserve it.” Aww… We say it on behalf of all mamas that we don’t need lavish gifts from our kids – it’s the thought that counts. Of course, we wouldn’t complain if they’d actually listen to us for the entire year without rebutting, but a mum can hope.
The actress updated her Instagram that she had a surprise of a bouquet of roses, and a bowl of noodles and a drink in a Stanley cup, no less, on the morning of Mother’s Day. While she didn’t say who was in charge of the gift, we can only assume it’s a joint effort between her husband Qi Yuwu, and their kids!
The social media influencer is another mum who celebrated Mother’s Day early, but hers was in the form of a photoshoot. She did a super fun family shoot, and also captured a few gorgeous photos of just her and her son, Micah. This is definitely a great idea to commemorate this special day!
Mother’s Day celebrations don’t have to be limited to those planned by your hubby and kids, and Sheila’s memorable one is testament of that. The actress shared a video of a Mother’s Day celebration at her daughter’s school, where her daughter did her nails. She wrote, “Sitting there, having my nails done by my daughter, I was struck by how much she has grown and how quickly time has passed since her birth.” We bet all mothers feel this way when we look at our kids’ milestones. Someone pass us the handkerchief.
Don’t you love it when the kids work together for a surprise? The radio DJ shared a reel of how her children surprised her for Mother’s Day, and it’s so cute! Each of them had a part to play: her sons bought her chocolate, coffee, and potato chips, while the youngest daughter’s job was to call her down for the surprise. Too adorable!
Social media influencer Nellie killed two birds with one stone by combining her Mother’s Day celebration with her wedding anniversary. The family celebrated the occasion with a stay at Como Metropolitan in Orchard Road, plus lots of feasting and fun time at the pool.
Not up for a lavish dinner at a restaurant? All you need for a special day is a simple meal whipped up by your loved ones. Presenter May Wan posted two Instagram stories, showing off a breakfast meal of eggs, bacon, and sausage, which she affectionately described as “morning brekkie by my monkeys”. They topped it off with coffee and Magnum ice cream, which is, to be honest, a combo we want to try someday. Thanks for the idea, May and kids!
