We may know homegrown singer Nathan Hartono well, but who is the actress he’s newly engaged to?

Surprise! Singer-songwriter and actor Nathan Hartono is engaged. On Dec 14, 2025, the 34-year-old took to Instagram to announce his engagement, sharing a video of him getting down on one knee and handing his now-fiancee, Liz Sergeant Tan, a ring. No fancy proposal for Nathan — it was a simple but ultra-sweet set-up with the couple enjoying a nighttime picnic with their two cats, then sharing a hug and a kiss.
“I never knew what to envision when I imagined my proposal. But supermarket sushi under the stars with our two cats was as perfect as it could’ve been,” the singer wrote. Awwww.
So, who is his fiancee? It’s not the first that we’ve seen of her, with Hartono not-so-subtly revealing their relationship in an Instagram post in October. The post saw the couple enjoying a stay on board the Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas cruise that had sailed out of Los Angeles in the United States. Then, he’d referred to her as his partner without naming her.
Well, the lady in question is Liz Sergeant Tan, a theatre actress and dancer who has been active in Singapore’s arts scene for over a decade.
She studied theatre at the School of the Arts (SOTA) and was part of its first graduating cohort in 2012. During her early years, she performed twice at the Arts House in the productions Manifest in January 2014 and Floating Bones in July 2014. She also acted in short films produced by Tisch Asia students.
Liz later graduated from the Intercultural Theatre Institute in 2016 and has been freelancing ever since. Outside of theatre, Liz performs at children’s birthday parties, bringing the joy of theatre to young audiences.
In 2022, she branched out into modelling and commercial work, further expanding her creative portfolio. More recently, she starred in the theatre production The Fourth Trimester, where she played the role of Ann. She also co-directed, choreographed, and performed in the 2024 Singaporean short dance film I Summon You, which was screened at Comma, a youth festival held at lifestyle hub Scape.
It is no surprise that Liz is deeply immersed in the arts scene, given her mother’s significant influence in theatre. Born into a Eurasian household as one of three children, her mother, the late Christina Sergeant (who passed away in 2013), was an American-born theatre director, actress, and educator who was widely regarded as a key proponent of Singapore’s local theatre scene.
With a background in theatre and a growing body of works across stage and film, Liz Sergeant Tan continues to carve out her own creative path alongside Nathan Hartono.
Congrats to the couple and we can’t wait for their wedding!
