After recently confirming that survival-thriller K-drama series Squid Game will be back for season two, Netflix has now dropped the news that it's planning for a reality TV show inspired by the hit show.

On Wednesday, the streaming platform revealed that the new 10-episode series, Squid Game: The Challenge, will see 'real-life players immersed in the iconic Squid Game universe and will never know what’s coming next. Here they’ll compete in a series of heart-stopping games in order to become the sole survivor* and walk away with a life-changing cash prize."

The cash prize? A whopping US$4.56m.

456 players — the number of players in the fictional show — will be recruited from around the globe and compete against each other to play a series of games. Details and obstacles have yet to be unveiled and the games will be inspired by the series, but they won't be deadly, obviously. In fact, according to the platform, "the worst fate is going home empty-handed" aka missing out on the huge cash prize.

The massively popular series follows a group of cash-strapped participants who risk their lives to play various children’s games with a deadly twist, in hopes of landing a colossal cash prize. The show took the world by storm, sparking staycations, apparel, memes inspired by the series, and even a trend for the dalgona candy featured in one of the games.

In February, Squid Game made history by becoming the first non-English-language series to win two acting prizes at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.  Lead actors Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon won best actor and actress in a drama, while the show took home the award for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a comedy or drama series.
