Skincare and makeup that promises to minimise the appearance of pores aren’t that new. But in recent times, perhaps fuelled by the skincare boom during the global pandemic lockdown, the industry has shifted its focus to tackling the root problems that lead to enlarged pores and rough skin texture. Ahead are eight new skincare products that target different facets of the issue, ranging from dehydration to clearing out excess dead skin cells and impurities.

Cleansing is a core skincare step we should devote more time and effort to ensure that any makeup, pollutants and dirt are properly removed. The Medicube cleansing balm is the first step of a double cleanse routine as the oily balm breaks down makeup and gunk. Through the principle of like attracts like, the oil also helps to clear out pores without stripping the skin. Finally, Centella asiatica extract reduces skin irritation and sensitivity.

Local skincare label Est. Lab has found a way to combine their skin cleanser with a silicone facial cleansing brush head to provide a deep yet gentle cleanse that massages, exfoliates and dislodges debris and sebum. Conversely, the cleanser is enriched with trehalose, red flower extract and panthenol to fend off free radical damage and nourish the skin.

Benefit Cosmetics recently released a slew of skincare targeted at pore care under its famous The Porefessional line. One of the products is this toner that combines alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic and citric acid) with the less harsh polyhydroxy acid (gluconolactone) to exfoliate and reduce the appearance of pores. The toner dispenses as a lightweight foam that spreads easy as bisabolol, sphingolipids and lemon and yuzu extracts nourish the skin.

Dehydrated skin that lacks water can exaggerate the look of pores as it lacks plumpness and laxity. The Chanel serum counteracts that problem with its core Camellia Alba OFA and PFA ingredients, offering continuous skin hydration and a plumping effect. The formula is also bolstered with Blue Ginger PFA to protect skin from free radical damage.

Bobbi Brown Remedies Skin Clarifier, $87, Sephora

Facial oils can help balance and normalise sebum production even with oily skin. Bobbi Brown’s facial oil can help because it contains argan, meadowfoam, rosehip and sea buckthorn oils to moisturise and reduce irritation and redness. More importantly, it contains the oil-soluble salicylic acid that can dive into pores and clean them out.

Ultra Pure High-Potency Serum 9.8% Glycolic Acid, $42, Kiehl’s

Regular exfoliation can dislodge excess dead skin cells that cause the appearance of texture, large pores and dullness. Kiehl’s serum is formulated with an effective 9.8 per cent glycolic acid to slough off dead skin. Meanwhile, the nourishing formula only contains seven ingredients, including hydrating glycerine and hyaluronic acid, making it suitable for those struggling with skin sensitivities.

Meanwhile, the trifecta of polyhydroxy acids, glycoprotein and panthenol aid in refining and caring for the skin.
