I Put Up With An Oily, Itchy Scalp For Years… Until I Tried This Hairdryer

With six children and little time for extra hair care, I tried Panasonic’s nanocare EH-NB70 for two weeks to see what difference a change of hairdryer could make

As a mum, I’ve learnt to put up with many things.

Cold coffee. Constant noise. Never-ending piles of laundry.

Somewhere along the way, I’d added an oily, itchy scalp to the list.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. I wash and dry my hair almost every night, but by the next day, my scalp would feel oily and itchy again. Stubborn flakes kept coming back, no matter what shampoo I used.

Between caring for my six children, aged three months to 13 years, running the household and keeping up with work, I hadn’t found the time or energy to get to the bottom of it.

So when I was offered the chance to try the Panasonic nanocare Hair Dryer EH-NB70, which is designed to care for the scalp and hair while drying them, I was curious.

I was already drying my hair every night. I might as well give this a go, right?

I thought a hairdryer just needed to dry my hair

I first encountered the EH-NB70 at Panasonic’s product event at Air Salon. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much.

My approach to blow-drying had always been straightforward: hot air, high speed, get it dry and call it a night. After all, that’s what hairdryers are for – drying the hair, right?

The EH-NB70 gave me a few more things to consider.

It uses Panasonic’s nanoe™ MOISTURE+ technology, alongside minerals and negative ions, to help moisturise the scalp and hair during drying. According to Panasonic, nanoe™ MOISTURE+ generates 18 times more moisture-packed particles than conventional nanoe™. These penetrate deep into the hair shaft to help moisturise hair and smooth the cuticle for a glossier, more manageable finish.

There are also six modes:

  • Hot: For drying hair
  • Cold: To help set a hairstyle
  • Hot & Cold Alternating: For a smoother, shinier finish
  • Scalp Care: For drying the scalp with airflow at approximately 60°C
  • Skin Care: Designed to help moisturise facial skin after a shower
  • Hair Tip Care: A gentler airflow for finishing the ends

At the event, the Air Salon stylists demonstrated how to move between the settings, starting with Hot mode before switching to Scalp Care, Hot & Cold Alternating and Hair Tip Care.

After a wash and blow-dry, my hair looked and felt fabulous. Smooth, glossy, the works. There were no serums or special styling products involved, either.

Still, I wasn’t entirely convinced.

Professionals have a knack for making freshly washed hair look amazing. Could I get similar results at home, with my own hands and my usual end-of-day energy levels?

The real test was using it at home

For the next two weeks, I used the EH-NB70 every night, keeping to my usual shampoo and conditioner.

Before the trial, my scalp would typically feel oily and itchy after a day of sweating in Singapore’s humidity. My hair, meanwhile, could look dry and frizzy. Occasionally, I’d also find large, oily flakes on my scalp.

The main adjustment was learning when to switch modes. Instead of keeping the dryer on one setting throughout, I followed the sequence demonstrated at the salon.

I first towel-dried my hair until it was about 70 per cent wet, then worked through four settings:

  • Hot mode for 10 minutes to dry my scalp and hair
  • Scalp Care mode for five minutes to focus on my scalp
  • Hot & Cold Alternating mode for five minutes for the lengths
  • Hair Tip Care mode for five minutes to finish the ends gently

To activate that last setting, I selected Hot & Cold Alternating at Fan Speed 1.

The blow-drying took 25 minutes in total.

There were a few settings to remember, but I could work them into the blow-dry I was already doing every night.

What I noticed after two weeks

After the first week, my scalp felt less oily and itchy. My hair also felt softer and looked smoother, with fewer flyaways.

By the end of the second week, the difference I appreciated most was how much lighter and cleaner my scalp felt. The flakes that had been annoying me were almost completely gone, and my hair looked shinier too.

The salon finish had caught my attention. Feeling more comfortable in my own scalp, day after day at home, was what won me over.

Five more heads put it to the test

I also used the hairdryer on my five older children.

Because yes, I’m that mum who insists her children cannot sleep with wet hair, no matter how late it is.

Over the two weeks, these comments came from my children and husband, who sometimes helps dry our daughters’ hair.

“There’s ACTUALLY a difference, her hair IS smoother.”

“My scalp actually feels lighter and cleaner, for real Mum.”

“I don’t want the other hairdryer, can I use the new one?”

A small change I can keep up with

Would I recommend the Panasonic nanocare Hair Dryer EH-NB70?

Based on my experience, yes, particularly to other mums who already blow-dry their hair and would like to give their scalp and hair more care within that routine.

The biggest adjustment was remembering the different modes. In return, I noticed a more comfortable scalp and smoother, shinier hair over the two weeks.

With six children, I’m conscious of how much time and energy any new routine asks of me. Even self-care can start to feel like another thing on the to-do list.

With the EH-NB70, it feels amazing to get such a noticeable ROI for my scalp and hair from just one tweak to my routine.

In this season of my life, when squeezing out additional time to care for myself feels tremendously untenable, finding a practical solution like this really feels like a big win.

I’ll take it.
