It's a month into the new year and you're ready to embrace a fresh new chop. Not sure what's in? We've asked hairstylists from some of Singapore's top salons to weigh in on the hairstyles that will make the cut this year. The bob, in various iterations, will reign supreme, as will curtain bangs and a new take on the voluminous waves of the '90s. Although, as many hairstylists will likely tell you, it should ultimately be a look that suits your face shape and lifestyle.
Undoubtedly the haircut of 2021, the lob is going nowhere for 2022 either. Yann Beyrie shares that he has never seen so many requests for the classic style. He adds, “The Alexa-style bob remains at the forefront, but there are so many new variations— changes in length, shape, volume and styling — for 2022."

"A simple yet elegant style, it looks great with a bit of style, or even if you're going for that casual, slightly tousled look. What’s more, it can lengthen the face without the bulk of long hair on hot days!" shares Den Ng, director of Prep Luxe.
“The great thing about this versatile style is that you don’t have to be too careful with it. For laid-back days, it imparts a slightly windswept look. Or bring out the styling tools if you want to look sleek and cool.”

Characterised by a cropped bob that ends at chin-length and curls inwards, and with bangs that sit at the brow line, the French bob is one to look out for.
"People are moving away from textured cuts to heavier silhouettes and bolder lines. Heavier lines help to define features and frame your face. Styling-wise you want a straight-ish finish but that's not too neat. Just apply a volumising leave-in product and blow-dry the hair downwards," says Leekaja Beauty Salon's senior hairstylist Zac Kam.

"For a while now, we’ve favoured hairstyles that appear artfully undone, and are low maintenance and effortless, but we are predicting a return to the old-school blow-dry and a more finessed approach to the hair."
"Full-bodied and classic, this ’90s blowout hair feels very polished and luxe but is done in a contemporary way," says Yann Beyrie (Yann Beyrie Paris).
The Hallyu wave brought about the trend for soft curls and waves, and Chez Vous' director Luis Wee says this will continue to push through in 2022.
"Based on our team's observations when they headed to Seoul last December via the VTL, at least five out of 10 women in Korea had their hair permed in such a manner, and paired with a curtain fringe," he adds. "Curtain bangs are parted down the middle or off-centre, often framing the face on both sides for a contoured look."

This short haircut (often worn tucked behind the ears) is perfect for working professionals who want to look classy without appearing too serious. It's a bit more relaxed compared to the sharp styles with precise lines that have been popularised in the West," Luis Wee (Chez Vous) says.
"It's a cross between a bob and a pixie haircut. Hair is given texture with layers at the crown for greater body and lightness. It is the go-to haircut right now in Seoul for women who wish to sport short hair. Despite its length, it still looks feminine, soft, and approachable – traits that are embraced by many Korean customers."
Picasso Hair Studio's creative director Liu Ziwei shares the same sentiment when it comes to a relaxed and textured look.
"The shaggy bob haircut has been trending the last few years and will continue to trend in 2022. This look is created by creating multiple layers and ideally coupled with a light wave perm (especially on Asians since our hair is naturally straight) to create more texture and movementt. This look is perfect for ladies who want it short, but yet still have a touch of feminity.
