It’s the start of a new year and if you’re planning to start bingeing on a new show, then you’re in luck. This month, your favourite streaming platforms have just released a slate of new and exciting titles and we couldn’t be more thrilled to start on something new while we sink into our couches and laze through the weekend. Whether you’re streaming it on Netflix or Disney+, ahead, we’ve gathered all the new shows to watch in January.
Gyeongseong Creature

Netflix series, Gyeongseong Creature, may have aired late in December but the show has steadily grown a strong following thanks to its addictive story plot and star-studded cast.
Set in 1945 in Gyeongseong (formerly Seoul), South Korea, the show introduces Jang Tae-Sang (played by Park Seo-Jun), a wealthy and highly attractive man renowned in the Bukchon area. Known for his quick reflexes, keen insight, and sociability, Tae-Sang is a reliable source of information in the region. However, his life takes a turn when he becomes entangled with Yoon Chae-Ok (played by Han So-Hee), a renowned sleuth specialising in finding missing individuals.
Yoon Chae-Ok’s tumultuous past involves travelling between Manchuria and Shanghai with her father during her childhood. Her survival skills, including proficiency in firearms, knife handling, and machinery, were honed during these challenging times. But, the disappearance of her mother a decade ago motivates Chae-Ok to embark on a journey to Gyeongseong in search of answers.
As Tae-Sang and Chae-Ok delve into mysterious missing person cases, they soon uncover a shocking reality that forces them to reevaluate their priorities and confront the harsh truths of their world.

The Brothers Sun

When the leader of a Taiwanese triad falls victim to a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, the infamous killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (portrayed by Justin Chien), travels to Los Angeles. His mission: to safeguard his mother, Eileen (played by Michelle Yeoh), and his unsuspecting younger brother, Bruce (portrayed by Sam Song Li), who has been shielded from the family’s dark realities until now.
As Taipei’s most dangerous underworld factions and a rising new group engage in a power struggle, the whole family finds themselves in the midst of the turmoil. Charles, Bruce, and their mother, Eileen, must reconcile the rifts created by their separation and unravel the true meaning of family. Time is of the essence as they navigate through a precarious situation, striving to comprehend the essence of unity before their numerous adversaries succeed in eliminating them all.

Love Deadline
If you’re still on a high from watching Single’s Inferno, Netflix has just introduced a new reality show called Love Deadline.
In this show, singles on the quest for life partners embark on journeys to picturesque destinations, such as the enchanting Okinawa to the historic Kyoto. As the women explore these dreamy locations, they must navigate the uncertainty of forming connections with potential life partners, all while aware that elimination could happen at any moment. With time ticking away and only a single opportunity to propose, the responsibility falls on the woman to decide on her path to a happily ever after.
The catch? Only women can propose, while men are on the clock.
Love Deadline will premiere on Netflix on 23 January.
Boy Swallows Universe

Set in 1980s Brisbane, this captivating coming-of-age story seamlessly weaves together the enchantment and naivety of youth with the harsh realities of adulthood. Here, Eli Bell faces a challenging upbringing — a missing father, a speechless brother, a recovering addict mother, a stepfather involved in heroin dealing, and an unconventional babysitter who happens to be a notorious criminal. Amidst these turbulent circumstances, Eli endeavours to follow his heart and grasp the essence of becoming a virtuous man. However, fate consistently places formidable obstacles in his path.
Adapted from Trent Dalton’s acclaimed Australian novel, “Boy Swallows Universe” delves into the pivotal juncture where a boy transitions into manhood, morality grapples with malevolence, and the mundane encounters the extraordinary.
Boy Swallows Universe will premiere on Netflix on 11 January.
Echo

Marvel Studios’ Echo, a spinoff of Hawkeye, spotlights Maya Lopez as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire.
To forge a new path forward, she must confront her past, reconnect with her Native American heritage, and fully embrace the significance of family and community.
While the series is expected to pick up after the Hawkeye events, it is anticipated to incorporate numerous flashbacks delving into Maya’s life before embarking on her quest for revenge against Ronin. This speculation is fueled by the return of McClarnon as Maya’s father, who passed on before the events in Hawkeye.
The narrative is likely to focus on exploring Maya’s intricate relationship with the Kingpin and her criminal ties, even as she strives to carve out a fresh destiny for herself.
Echo will premiere on Disney+ on 10 January.
A Shop For Killers
The show tells the story of a college student, Jeong Jian, who finds herself seeking refuge in her childhood home when a group of exceptionally skilled assassins targets her. Engaged in a desperate struggle for survival, Jeong Jian starts recalling crucial lessons imparted by her late uncle, lessons that may hold the key to her staying alive. Amidst confusion and being trapped, Jian must swiftly unravel her uncle’s undisclosed history and decipher the reasons behind the relentless pursuit of access to the house, along with the concealed arsenal within.
A Shop For Killers will premiere on Disney+ on 17 January.
Exchange 3

The much-awaited third season of the reality dating show EXchange is making a return. For the unacquainted, in the show, participants will navigate through dating challenges and missions, all while sharing the same house with their exes in the pursuit of discovering new love. Yes, you read that right.
However, as drama ensues throughout the show, the climax arrives on the final day, where they face the ultimate choice: embark on new romances or reignite old flames. The suspense lingers: will they triumph in finding fresh love, or will they be drawn back to their former partners?
