5 DIY Hair Tips & Tricks The Internet Shared With Each Other This Week
It all started from a very simple question: how to make my hair look more attractive? We wonder, too
The Internet is full of wonders. If you look close enough, you will find pretty useful and practical DIY tips and hacks that may actually help you to simplify your life.
This week, we found an interesting DIY hair hacks thread on Reddit. It all started with when a user asked, "What are some easy ways to make hair look instantly more attractive?" The Internet answered with dozens of hair recommendations and advice - of which we picked out the five best.
The first trick that received the most likes was surprisingly the easiest and cheapest one that got us all wondering: 'Why didn't I think of that?'
"Dry your hair upside-down," said Reddit user, @opalandolive. "It gives volume at the roots."
Apparently, lots of people do this. Other fellow beauty junkies chimed in, sharing their own elevated or lazy versions of this trick. Here's one – if you have time to spare, tie your damp hair in a loose bun at the top of your head. Leave it for an hour to let your roots dry. Then, dry the rest of your beautiful curls. Sounds like a pretty amazing lazy day formula for voluminous, beautiful hair.
If you're going to try it, just try not to let your elderly mother or mother-in-law see it lest they remind you of that old wive's tale about wet, rotten scalp with "cold air" going into your body.
The next DIY tip costs a $170. It's a Revlon heated round hair dryer brush that reminds you of Dyson's Air Styler. Well, if you prefer something even cheaper, you will easily find similar brandless versions of this hair dryer brush on Amazon or Carousell.
Here's the tip by @shartlobster: "I recently got myself a heated round brush- it's a super quick hack to smooth shiny hair in minutes. I'm a bedtime shower person, so i never blow dry or usually really style my hair at all. Wash and wear. But using this heated brush for a minute or two when I wake up makes a HUGE difference."
We know, we're so tempted to get that brush too.
What? A heat styling primer? Is that the same as a heat styling protectant spray? Yes, actually. In fact, this highly-raved heat styling primer boasts seven benefits in one spray.
Here's the tip from @Chemical-Monitor-660:
"My game changing routine (which I do after washing my hair):
Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s oil primer
styling with an electrical round brush
finishing off with the Moroccanoil treatment applied on hair ends."
The Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer ($37) in question is suitable for dry to very dry hair. It protects your hair from heat, detangles, de-frizzes, prevents breakage, softens, shines, and offers UV protection.
How to use this spray? How much to spray? Does it weigh down my hair? According to @Chemical-Monitor-660, give your wet hair a few spritz of this, and comb it down so it spreads evenly. You won't need to worry about spraying too much product because it "doesn’t weigh down the hair at all, there is no sticky feeling and no buildup at the roots".
The next one from user @jubamba involves a hair styling tool as well, "Use a root crimper for lots more volume that stays all day. Best $20 I ever spent. If my house was on fire, I’d grab my laptop, my childhood stuffy, and my root crimper."
A crimper? What's that? The hair crimper and the crimping trend came about in the '80s when American singer and actress Barbara Streisand first sported the look. Similar to a hair straightener, a hair crimper usually comes with two flat hot iron plates (with zig zag waves on it) in a handheld tool. After you switch on the crimper, you wait for the iron plates to heat up. Then, you get to pick a small bunch of hair that you want to be crimped. Simply clamp your hair between the two heated plates, wait for a second, and let go.
Like all hair styling tools, you can choose to get a hair crimper for a reputable brand such as or a cheaper, generic one in the likes of this multi-use crimper ($60 from Lazada).
User @Lanafan845 shared her little hair secret - a bottle of It's A 10 Miracle Daily Conditioner ($77). She shared: "I love “it’s a 10” leave in conditioner - i spray some in my hair after my shower and it makes my hair softer and shinier!"
Fellow users chimed in, agreeing that this leave-in conditioner by the Hispanic brand, It's A 10, works wonders. It's A 10 was founded by Carolyn Aronson, a hairdresser turned salon owner turned entrepreneur. Of course, the brand is best known for its series of leave-in conditioner sprays.
