Mooncakes, lantern walks, stories of Chang’e – we’ve reached September, the month of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Sep 25. Many families prefer to keep it nice and simple, by going for a lantern walk around their neighbourhood, eating mooncakes, and spending some quality time together. If you want to take the experience up a notch and dive deeper into the culture and legends behind the festival, these places can capture your kids' attention, while you soak in the festive atmosphere.

Lights by The Lake @ Jurong Lake Gardens

Celebrate Mid-Autumn under the stars at Lights by the Lake 2026, returning to Jurong Lake Gardens from Sep 19 to 27. This annual festival by NParks fills the gardens with lantern displays, music, cultural performances, and family-friendly activities, with the lanterns staying up till Oct 4.

You can look forward to larger-than-life lantern scenes inspired by beloved Asian legends, from Legend of the White Snake at Lakeside Field to glowing rabbits and Princess Kaguya in the Japanese Garden. The whole fam will also love the Cloud Pagoda Light Show, which runs every 30 minutes from 7.30pm, or explore the Chinese Garden Stamp Rally to complete a mission and redeem a token.

There are plenty of hands-on activities too, including the Roving Art Studio, heritage games, lantern-making and the Don’t Play Play exhibition, where the young ones can learn about classic board games and collect stamps to make their own Aeroplane Chess board.

Mid-Autumn light displays at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay gets a magical glow-up this Mid-Autumn season. Lantern displays, carnival games and family-friendly activities take over the Gardens from Sep 12 to 27, 2026.

This year, families can follow original character Fenbao through several glowing displays across the Gardens. Look out for a giant celestial whale at Dragonfly Lake, dreamy floral lanterns at Golden Garden, and underwater-inspired scenes at Supertree Grove with luminous fish, jellyfish and colourful blooms. Don’t miss the Colonnade of Lights, featuring 1,000 hand-painted lanterns created by the community.

Kids can also get crafty at the Craft Corner on selected dates, while the Marketplace at Supertree Grove will have food stalls, carnival games and family-friendly rides. Visit on opening night to catch the LED Lion Dance, or drop by on the final day for the Singapore Big Flag Championship and Dragon Dance.

And here’s a good lobang! Kids aged 12 and below enter Flower Dome for free from Sep 5 to 27, where they can explore the ancient Egypt-themed Lilytopia floral display. This applies to Singapore residents, with standard charges for accompanying adults.

Celestial Nights 2026: Mid-Autumn Edition at Science Centre Singapore

Make Mid-Autumn a little more cosmic at Celestial Nights 2026: Mid-Autumn Decoded at Science Centre Singapore. Start your visit at the free Celestial Trail, an illuminated night route connecting Science Centre Singapore and Japanese Garden. Along the way, kids can follow glowing deep-space displays, explore curated night zones and complete trail activities.

For moon-loving little ones, the Live Planetarium: Moon Legends: From Myth to Mission takes place inside the Omni-Theatre on both days. This 20-minute show connects familiar moon legends, including Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit, with modern lunar exploration.

Families can also book limited observatory viewing slots to look through the 16-inch telescope and spot lunar craters, weather permitting. And if you’re feeling peckish, head to the courtyard for street food, cold drinks, acoustic sets and free White Rabbit ice cream, while stocks last.

Moonlit Garden at VivoCity

Celebrate Mid-Autumn with Hello Kitty and friends at Sanrio Characters Moonlit Garden, happening at Vivocity from Aug 25 to Sep 27.

Head up to Sky Park on Level 3 to explore a whimsical Moonlit Garden photo zone, complete with life-sized Sanrio characters, glowing lily pads and moon-themed decorations. Kids can spot favourites such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Kuromi and Pompompurin, with the display lighting up daily from 6pm to 10pm for extra photo-worthy moments.

From Sep 19 to Oct 6, little ones can also check out Kuromi Carnival Kingdom, featuring Sanrio-themed carnival games from 5pm to 10pm. Try your luck at the game booths and stand to win plush toys and other prizes.

Mid-Autumn Family Fun 2026

Celebrate Mid-Autumn with the kids at Mid-Autumn Family Fun 2026, a weekend festival by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

Happening from Sep 19 to 20, 2026, the festival features 25 family-friendly activities across SCCC and the Singapore Conference Hall. Families can explore the glowing Bit Bit Forest Mid-Autumn Light Up, join the Mass Lantern Walk: Talking to the Moon, and look up at the night sky during Amazing Moongazing.

Kids can also get hands-on at The Activities Village, try free upcycled lantern making, dress up at The Hanfu Wardrobe Corner, or sample festive treats at The Mid-Autumn Mooncake Fiesta. There’ll also be cultural performances, rooftop activities and paid workshops such as pastel Nagomi art and tea whisking.

Eligible Singapore Citizens can use SG Culture Pass credits for selected ticketed programmes.
