Chinese New Year is about the familial reunions, the food, and of course, showing off all the festive fits. The Year of the Horse galloped in with plenty of style, and our local celebs made sure to celebrate with their families in outfits that were equal parts festive and fashionable.

From timeless cheongsams to cute matching outfits, this Lunar New Year saw celebs like actress Rebecca Lim, influencer Melissa Koh, Love Bonito’s co-founder Rachel Lim and more turning heads while spending time with loved ones. Here are some of our favourite celeb CNY outfits.

Sora Ma

On the first day of CNY, Malaysian-born actress Sora Ma shared an honest, vulnerable update about celebrating as a solo mum with her little boy, Skye.

Her Singaporean businessman husband’s sudden passing in 2024 has made every milestone bittersweet, but she’s clearly doing her best to stay strong for her son.

In their CNY photo, Sora kept things elegant in a pale pink brocade cheongsam, while Skye absolutely stole the show in a Korean emperor-inspired crimson outfit, with a tiny bell in hand. However, the Lunar New Year did get off to a rocky start for them, with Skye falling ill in the middle of the night. Thankfully, he got better, with the mother-son duo dancing for the cam in this video.

She wrote:

“Day 1 of Lunar New Year.

In the middle of last night, my child suddenly came down with a fever.
The situation came out of nowhere, and even though this is only my second year as a mum,

I was still left flustered and scrambling. Turns out, no matter how many years it’s been, as long as you’re a mum, your heart will panic right along with your child.

But in the midst of worry and being busy, we are still full of gratitude. Grateful that I can still be by his side. Grateful that our little family is safe together. Grateful that this new year is beginning with love.

Wishing everyone a happy Lunar New Year and a healthy, safe family.

Sora & Skye.”

Tay Kewei & Alfred Sim

Gardens by the Bay? No, it’s just singer Tay Kewei, Alfred Sim and their brood turning the temple into their own floral dome, thanks to those matching, full-on botanical shirts from Q Menswear that look like they’ve been plucked straight from a conservatory gift shop. We’re just kidding.

Melissa Koh

Lifestyle influencer Melissa Koh’s CNY Day 1 post also gave a cosy peek into life as a mum of three, with husband James Chen and their brood all piled onto the sofa in classy coordinated outfits.

“May your day be filled with the warmth of family and togetherness!” the 36-year-old wrote.

Instead of just throwing on matching colours and calling it a day, the family took “matchy-matchy” to heart with chinoiserie-inspired, embroidered sets that not only tied their looks together, but also showed just how strong their family bond is.

Rebecca Lim

“Happy New Year! Stay healthy, stay happy, and keep shining all year long!” Rebecca Lim wrote on Instagram, along with a sweet family photo with husband Matthew Webster and their two-year-old son all decked out in matching blue and white outfits with a soft, dreamy print.

The 39-year-old actress, who’s expecting baby number two, is set to welcome a little Year of the Horse bundle of joy in April or May.

P.S. That sleek black rocking chair in the second picture that their son is on? It’s by Italian designer Magis, with an original price tag $1,500.

Rachel Lim

Love, Bonito co-founder Rachel Lim kept the mum-and-daughter twinning low-key, subtly matching only in their gold shoes with her two-year-old daughter Keira. The entrepreneur took tradition on a modern spin with a denim cheongsam, while Keira embraced a bright palette, both from Love, Bonito (obviously).

In contrast, her husband Leonard Lee and five-year-old son Oliver went all in with identical tops and denim (that matched Mum), which loudly announced their family ties.

“Happy New Year from ours to yours! Here’s to a year filled with growth, good health, deep joy and meaningful adventures!” the 38-year-old wrote.

Andrea Chong

Entreprener and influencer Andrea Chong, AKA Drea Chong, kicked off the festivities with a punny “HAYppy CNY! Wishing everyone peace, health, and happiness for the whole family, because family and health is everything!”

In the fam pic with husband Imran Rahim and their three kids, Ezra, four, Elia, three, and one‑month‑old Eisa, the rest of the clan turned up in auspicious red while Drea went for a softer checked cheongsam‑style dress from her label Good Addition.

She clearly wasn’t trying to blend in, and honestly, in most households (and every CNY photo), mum is always the main character anyway.

Yeoh Mongchin

Influencer Yeoh Mong Chin, better known as Mongabong, painted the town red (and every other colour) in a watercolour-style cheongsam that looked straight off a gallery wall.

With husband Matthias Lim and three-year-old Micah by her side, she wished followers a cheery “Happy lunar new year from the Lims” — with Micah twinning in a mini abstract-print shirt that mirrored her vibrant dress.

As for Matthias in his navy shirt and grey joggers? Every masterpiece needs a neutral frame, and he clearly decided to play the part of the supportive backdrop to his two walking works of art, with just the pocket of his shirt featuring a similar print.

Chen Xiuhuan

Hot mum-of-three Chen Xiuhuan served full tai tai energy in a navy, polka-dotted coordinating set with a flirty peplum top and leg-baring shorts — proof you can be comfy, a little sexy and still CNY-ready at the same time.

While other ladies clutch their branded handbags, her arm candy had us properly jealous: three fluffy dogs and one cat, all lounging around her like her own personal entourage.

In another shot, she twinned in the same print with eldest daughter Shanisse Tsai, 27, turning the driveway into their runway.

Her other girls, Shalynn, 25, and Shavinne, 21, are currently overseas, but cheeky middle child Shalynn still made it to the party in spirit — by photoshopping herself and her sisters into a family pic so technically, the fam bam rang in the new year in matching blue polka dots.

Lee Teng

TV host Lee Teng went the extra mile and booked a full-on professional studio photoshoot for his entire family — himself, his wife Gina Lin, 32, their one-year-old son Ellison and their two camera-ready dogs.

Gina rocked a pastel cropped cheongsam set with chunky beige platform boots that added an edgy vibe, while Lee Teng matched her in a subtly shimmery tang-style shirt and white shoes. Baby Ellison brought the huat in a bright red romper, and their two pups, all dressed up, made the whole thing look like a CNY fashion spread.

Xu Bin

“First day of the Lunar New Year, the whole family in one frame,” the 36-year-old actor wrote. “Lights are glowing warmly, and nothing beats the cosiness of reunion. This new year, may everything be smooth and joyful. Wishing everyone a happy new year, may you prosper, charge ahead, achieve instant success, gallop towards abundance and have great fortune in the Year of the Horse!”

Posing with wife Evelyn Wang and their two kids, son Ethan, seven, and daughter Elyse, four, the family looked adorably mismatched in the best way — his daughter and wife in soft festive hues, his son’s celebrating National Day, while Xu Bin turned up in head‑to‑toe black like the resident cool dad who clearly didn’t get the “no black for CNY” memo. But okay lah, give chance. He has a strip of red across his OOTD.
