After an overhaul, casual-fine dining Indian restaurant The Curry Club has reopened its doors, serving up authentic Indian flavours given a contemporary spin by the restaurant's new chef Saumya Prakash.

Delve into small plates like Dosa Cone Triplets ($13++) of mini dosa cones, which are fun to eat, with fillings of fluffy podi masala, chicken chukka and braised curry fish. It's also served with a trio of gravies. Definitely try the Fire-Kissed Aubergine ($21++) which sees smokey baby aubergine coated in crisp tempura batter and served with a flavoursome curry cream, as well as furikake.

The requisite biryani is available, but apart from the traditional lamb, the restaurant also offers the FGRO Biryani ($37++) — that is frog leg biryani. Imbued with smokey aroma from roseapple wood, the rice is fluffy and flavourful, and the frog legs are tender. On the side, there's a refreshing beetroot raita with pomegranate seeds if you need to temper the heat.

Order the cocktails to accompany your meal. Inventive options include the Curry Leaf Collins ($22++) of vodka and homemade curry ginger, and the Spiced Cobbler ($22++), a fruity mix of Bourbon whiskey, homemade mixed berry jam and orange.

The Curry Club Signature is at 11 Mohamed Sultan Road, Singapore 239010. Visit its website for reservations or more information.

Beachfront dining at Canopy Changi Village

There's a new waterfront restaurant to wind down at — the new Canopy Changi Village, opened by the Canopy garden concept restaurant chain, has opened its doors at the Civil Service Club @ Changi. Apart from offering sweeping views of Changi Creek, Straits of Johor and Pulau Ubin.

Expect brunch (till 2pm) and all-day fare, from breakfast platters to pastas, sandwiches, and grilled meats. Munch on buffalo wings and sweet potato croquettes, or dive into mains like lobster bisque pasta, spicy sambal baked salmon and roasted duck breast. Head there on Fridays and Saturdays, and you'll get to enjoy a live band that's scheduled to perform when dusk rolls around, too.

Plus, you can bring your furkids. Like the rest of its sister restaurants, it's a pet-friendly space.

And to commemorate the launch, kids get to eat for free (choose from Fish & Chips or Kids Pasta) with every main dish ordered, from now till Nov 30, 2023. Alternatively, you can go for complimentary Buffalo Hot Wings for each main order. Terms and conditions apply.

Canopy Changi Village is at 2 Netheravon Road, Block B, Civil Service Club, Singapore, Singapore 508503. Visit its website for more information.

You might recognise Puffy Bois from its pop-ups and takeovers at the likes of Caffe Fernet, Tippling Club and Meatsmith Little India. And now the pizza joint has found its permanent home on Bali Lane. Dimly lit, with concrete walls and casual wooden furnishings that exude an unpretentious, laid-back vibe, the attic bar is helmed by longtime friends and business partners Sam Ng and Zul Zaba.

Guests can expect a menu of five pizzas that go by the slice or pie, anchored by the Classic Margherita ($6 per slice/$22 whole) and Pepperoni ($7/$26). The remaining three are served on rotation based on the team’s creative whimsy. For now, there's Parma-Roni ($7.50/$28) topped with savoury parma ham and pickled chillis, Black Clam ($7/$26) that has squid ink and clams, and Spiced Artichoke ($6.50/$24).

Award-winning bartender Sam Ng is behind the bar, doling out classic and custom cocktails. Highlights include the session-able Bamboo ($22) and refreshing Sour Crush Cooler ($20) with whiskey and sour mango to the boozier Duck & Weave (S$22), a tequila Old Fashioned done Puffy Bois-style and the 2:1 Martini ($23).

Puffy Bois is at 20A Bali Lane, Singapore 189856. Opens Thurs to Mon, 6pm to 12am. Visit its Instagram page for more information.

Homegrown Chinese seafood restaurant Seafood Paradise has joined hands with casual dining Mexican-Indian restaurant Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh by celebrated chef Gaggan Anand.

What ensues is a series of dishes that meld Indian-Mexican flavours with Singapore-inspired nuances. For instance, there’s a smokey grilled squid given a refreshing tartness with Mexican salsa taquera. In the same vein, Fresh Jumbo Canadian Oysters get the same spicy tang with alsa Taquera dressing, pickled shallots and tobiko  ($12.90++ per piece, min two pieces).

For a comforting carb option, try the Seafood Paradise Mee Goreng with Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh's Masala served with Papadum ($25.90++). The addition of robust masala spices gives the traditional fried noodle dish an inventive spin.

Taking centre stage is the Gaggan's Crab Curry with Seafood Paradise’s Creamy Butter Mud Crab topped with Coconut Crumbs. Meaty crabs are doused in Seafood Paradise's popular fragrant creamy butter sauce, given a more exotic spin with Gaggan Anand's crab curry.

These dishes will be available for a limited time only from Nov 1, 2023, available exclusively at Seafood Paradise outlets at VivoCity and Clarke Quay. From Nov 1 to 5, 2023, Citi, Maybank Debit or Credit Cardmembers and PGR members can enjoy these special dishes at 30% off.
