Masterchef Asia finalist Sandrian Tan opens an online bakery specialising in tarts
If you caught season one of MasterChef Asia back in 2015, you might find the name Sandrian Tan ringing a bell. The finalist of the show's inaugural season was one of three Singaporeans who participated, and now she's opened an online bakery specialising in artisanal tarts.
To kick off the opening, she's introduced a menu of six tarts, all of which boast playful flavours and equally quirky names. For instance, there's the Stonehenge with white meringue chips that nod to the monument, atop vanilla custard and dollops of passion fruit. There's also the Grape Kobo (inspired by Hokkaido's Milk Kobo Factory) that has yoghurt and cheese custard, grapes and raw honey perfumed with lavender.
The Holy Lemon is given an aromatic touch with herbaceous basil and meringue cones, but we found the custard a tad too tangy for our liking. We'd also have preferred a more buttery crust.
$35 for a box of four, and $50 for a box of six, available for delivery only. Visit its website to order or for more information.
Buona Terra is celebrating the return of white truffle season with special Experience Menus and sets designed by resident chef Denis Lucchi, all of which spotlight the prized culinary gems from Alba, Italy.
The aromatic and earthy flavour of white truffle lends itself to plates like White Truffle Egg Soufflé with Saffron and Parmesan Cheese Sauce, the crowd-favourite Tagliolini with Butter Emulsion, Parmesan Cheese and White Truffle, and even dessert, which sees a layered dessert of mushroom meringue, vanilla and chestnut cream, marron glacé, hazelnuts, and hazelnut ice cream with white truffle shaved over.
The white truffle menu is available till Dec 2021. White truffle shavings are available at $80 per 10g. A four-course lunch starts at $118 per person, and five-course dinner starts from $198++ per person, excluding white truffle shavings. Buona Terra is at 29 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228224. Visit its website for reservations or more information.
Easties who are fans of Drunken Farmer's sourdough creations and natural wines no longer have to venture to Stanley Street. It's opened up a second sourdough-focused bistro and natural wine bar concept in the Joo Chiat enclave, taking over the Common Man Joo Chiat premises daily come dusk, and with tempting new plates.
For one, you'll get to chow down on new variants of its signature sourdough pizzas, like the Chorizo ($23++) and Four Cheeses ($28++) with ricotta, manchego, blue cheese and mozzarella. There's also a Sharing Spread Platter ($22++) of pita bread that you can dip into a hearty trio of avocado cream, pumpkin hummus, and seeds praline.
The wine's not to be missed, of course. There'll be a rotation of 14 labels available by the glass, or you can pick from a bottle selection of over 80 labels. Can't decide? Get the Farmer's Selection ($50++), a curated flight of three natural wines.
Drunken Farmer is at 185 Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427456, open from 6pm till 10.30pm. Visit its website for reservations or more information.
