Graphic tees, low-rise jeans, bike shorts, leather jackets, and slip dresses are some of the few 90s fashion trends that are making a comeback this year. And we all know that what seems totally dated today may be every it-girl’s obsession tomorrow.

But it’s not just limited to fashion trends. In fact, the resurgence of the nineties era also sees the return of some of our favourite hairstyles

After a decade of experimentation with hairstyles, Gen Zers and millennials alike, are switching things up with nostalgic hairstyles like the blunt bob or even incorporating accessories like the ever-so-popular claw clips into their everyday look. And while it does seem like it’s just a phase, it seems like these popular trends are showing no signs of slowing down. Setting our sights on some of our favourite 1990s accessories and hairdos, ahead, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite trends that you can try if you’re bored of your old hairstyle.

'The Rachel'

1/10

Popularised by the hit series Friends, which has been dubbed as one of the greatest TV shows ever, ‘The Rachel’ is basically a layered haircut made famous by Jennifer Aniston’s character. And while the actress revealed that it wasn’t exactly her favourite haircut, many thought otherwise. To make the hairstyle a little more modern and chic, try opting for highlights, short layers, and maybe some loose bangs.

Pixie cut

2/10

This is probably the most practical haircut you could go for if you’re living in a warm climate like Singapore. Go for a bold chop and opt for a short, layered cut, and style it with spiky layers or add more volume by spritzing some hairspray to add some texture to your look.

High ponytail

3/10

You can never go wrong with a high ponytail. Not only does it give you a chic and timeless look, but it also keeps your hair out of your eyes and it makes you look kempt throughout the day. For the ultimate 90s look, tie your hair up with a thick scrunchie.

Crimped hair

4/10

Let’s just say that not everyone can pull off this look without looking like a hot mess. Nevertheless, if you’re feeling experimental and you’ve got the right crimping irons to recreate this look, then you might actually love this nostalgic hairdo.

The bob

5/10

The bob was a classic cut that was popular in the 90s and comes in various lengths and styles, like the asymmetrical bob or the blunt bob. We recommend going for this hairstyle if you prefer something a little more edgy and sleek.

Half-up, half-down

6/10

The half-up, half-down has been around for quite some time but it’s so easy to recreate, it’s no wonder that this trend is a popular favourite amongst the masses. With various hairstyles to choose from, you can try doing it with a twist, as a braid or even tie it up with a scrunchie.

Space buns

7/10

Space buns are an easy way to add volume and texture to your look. All you have to do is to tie two buns on either side of the head and pair it with fun accessories such as butterfly clips or beads.

Octopus hair

8/10

Choppy hairstyles are all the rage this year and we can definitely see why it’s picking up speed in the beauty industry. With the shag and mullet haircuts being two of the most popular styles over the past year, the octopus hairstyle incorporates the choppy layers of a shag with the top-heavy look of a mullet. Essentially, the edgy and cascading layers are what give the cut the ‘octopus’ look.

Bubble braids

9/10

If you can’t braid or you’re looking for something a little trendier, then you might want to try going for bubble braids. Adding lots of texture and volume to your look, this particular hairstyle is easily achievable – and all you need are a few small elastic bands.

To start, pull your hair into a ponytail or even pigtails, and follow up by spacing your hair ties evenly from the top to the bottom of your ponytail.

Middle part

10/10

Side parts are out. This year, it’s all about parting your hair in the middle.

Still a classic, the middle part is a great way to embrace the ’90s especially if you’re in search of a less voluminous hairstyle.
