This week's buzzing with the Barbie craze and the talk of birthdays (mainly Singapore's 58th one). Our local celebs had fun while also taking time to be physically and mentally present, both with their kids and for themselves.

Jillian Lim offered postpartum updates, Sheila Sim shared a meaningful incident involving her daughter and her thoughts on parenting, while Jaime Teo and Joanne Peh spent quality time with their daughters through wholesome activities. Amidst the Barbie craze, Brie Benfell uploaded her Barbie Make-up step-by-step GRWM (that stands for "Get Ready With Me"). Meanwhile, Kim Lim celebrated her 32nd birthday in Bangkok, with a lavish party that saw around 300 guests.

Happy birthday, Kim Lim! If you haven’t heard, the socialite and entrepreneur threw a luxurious party for her 32nd birthday at Capella Bangkok. With approximately 300 guests, it was an extravaganza filled with cocktails, confetti, fairy lights, giant bouquets, a fireworks show, and birthday video messages from David Beckham and Bling Empire star Kane Lim. There was also live music from Thai band Getsunova. It was indeed a spectacle – no wonder it took six months to plan.

10 days after giving birth, Kiss92 DJ Jillian shared updates on her newborn and her recovery process from childbirth and pregnancy, as well as the struggles of breastfeeding. She expressed her gratitude for the resources, services and support she's had, as well as the warm community of mothers around her. The early days of motherhood (and babyhood) are often tough and it's crucial for mums to be able to have a support system they can rely on.

Sheila Sim shared a heartwarming story of her elder daughter Layla thanking her classmate for apologising to her. She reflected on how it made her thankful for the times she has been patient with her daughter, instead of showing anger.

And while that's not always the case. When she does lose her cool or says things she regrets, she makes it a point to apologise and address the issues before tucking her daughter into bed. Taking a respectful approach in bringing up a child and acknowledging faults also helps in instilling the same values and behaviour in them.

‘The more, the merrier’ was certainly Yvonne Lim's mantra when it came to her holiday in Bali. The actress and her family were joined by a large group of friends (there were 23 people in all) for a vacay at Club Med Bali. From dancing to archery and a trampoline bungee, they definitely had a whale of a time. The 11 kids also got to go wild at the Mini Kids Club, while the 12 adults had the freedom to eat, drink and let loose.

1.57 cm? 5.4 cm? It can be hard to imagine how big a baby is in a mum's womb, but it's easier to visualise its approximate size and development with tangible objects — like fruits! Charmaine Yee posted a fun baby bump progress video with fruits for size comparisons, from a small plum to a watermelon. It makes a fun idea for a pregnancy diary, for sure.

Joanne Peh signed up as a parent volunteer for her daughter’s school trip to the National Orchid Garden. Being involved with your kids' school activities also shows support, and is a great way to bond, too.

The actress also let on that she'll be holding a National Day workshop at the Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at Resorts World Sentosa come Aug 9, with story and art activities that are designed for everyone (above the age of five) — perfect if you haven't made plans for the public holiday.

Mug cookies seem pretty easy, right? All you need to do are mix the ingredients in a mug and stick it in the microwave oven. Jaime Teo was requested by her daughter Renee to make a mug cookie. They strictly followed a TikTok recipe and painstakingly filmed the process, which seemingly went in an optimistic direction and turned out... not quite right. We love the narrative arc in the video though, and, of course, the joys of baking with your loved ones (regardless of whether it turns out edible).

Hey Barbie! You’ve got your hot pink outfit to catch Barbie in the cinemas — all you need now is makeup to complete the look. Brie Benfell uploaded a quick tutorial of how she did her make-up for the Barbie premiere. Use it as inspo, take what applies, and go party!

Tabitha Nauser

Singer Tabitha Nauser uploaded a transformation video that showed her pre- and post-pregnancy. She highlighted the reality of initially freaking out over how her body was changing, but constantly reminded herself to embrace the process of growing a little human. She also shifted her mindset to be more accepting of her changing body. "Our bodies have seasons, and we’re meant to enjoy all of them," she wrote. Solid advice to stand by for all mums.

Jamie Victoria

Similarly, Jamie Victoria also had to find the balance between her physical changes after giving birth, and her perception of self. It's a topic that many mothers can relate to. Here’s Jamie’s reminder to set aside the unrealistic expectations on your body image, and to work on being kinder to yourself and your body.
