10 Of The Best All-Day Western Breakfast Joints To Visit

Who says that breakfast should be eaten before noon?

December 5, 2022
All-Day Western Breakfast Joints to Visi

You can’t go wrong with the go-to Singaporean morning fare of kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs and kopi. But there are times when you could prefer tucking into a heartier meal of Western breakfast classics: think a stack of delicious buttermilk pancakes topped with berry compote and warm maple syrup or a full-on feast of sausages, scrambled eggs, sautéed mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and sourdough.

The city-state has no shortage of cafés and restaurants serving breakfast dishes that run the gamut from American and French to Mediterranean and Australian. And the best part of the ones on this list? They offer all-day breakfast menus, which means you can enjoy perfectly poached eggs on toast well past midday.

Singapore’s latest all-day breakfast outfit is a retro-themed American diner, complete with black-and-white chequered floors, booths fitted with red upholstery and neon-lit signage out front. Big eaters can go for the All-Star Plate (scrambled eggs, baked beans, bacon, tomatoes, sausage, mushrooms, potatoes and toast), while those who like things on the sweeter side should try the Blueberry Pancakes featuring wild blueberry compote and whipped cream.

You’ll discover all manner of tasty breakfast options at the sibling concept of Common Man Coffee Roasters. Among the dishes on the menu are granola with Greek yoghurt, goji berries, coconut slivers, orange slices and plum compote; fluffy pancakes with caramelised bananas and berry coulis; and a Turkish-inspired delight of soft-boiled eggs, crispy feta, hummus, pomegranate and cucumber served with warm pita and a honey drizzle.

Neptune
custom

Those in the east should make a beeline for Neptune to satisfy their odd-hour cravings for breakfast fare (their morning menu is served until 5pm). We’re suckers for the Chilli Crab & Chorizo (harissa chilli crab, grilled chorizo, scrambled eggs, toast and tangy sour cream), but those who want something even more unique can go for the Big in Japan: a Grana Padano scone with yuzu jam, honey mascarpone, cold shrimp and salmon in dill sauce.

Sarnies

Sarnies has long been one of the top spots in the CBD to tuck into a solid breakfast. Grab a seat outdoors and pick your fighter from their extensive menu. Egg-centric dishes include Turkish-style eggs served with chilli crunch, roasted tomatoes and sourdough; and hearty steak and eggs with herbed butter and watercress salad. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a flat white or cold brew, and maybe order an açaí bowl while you’re at it.

Tolido’s Espresso Nook

This Melbourne-inspired café does creative breakfast items with a local twist. One of the most popular offerings is their Pandan Pancakes. It comes with either vanilla or coconut ice cream and gula melaka sauce, and makes for a decadent morning meal. Other standouts are French toast with stout-glazed bacon and mascarpone; a croissant with mushrooms smothered in a creamy truffle sauce; and shakshouka with sourdough and fresh salsa.

Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar

Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar, situated at the back of the Tanglin Post Office compound, is a great family-friendly breakfast pick. Feast on dishes including cheddar cheese and bacon waffles with sour cream; skillet eggs with chorizo; and buttermilk pancakes with berries and whipped mascarpone, and do stop by their bakery cabinet to grab a few things to take home with you: we suggest the sourdough, canelés and kaya and chocolate donuts.

Merci Marcel
custom

Merci Marcel is arguably one of the best places to tuck into French fare. It goes without saying that you should try their bakes, which are made with 100% French butter. Get the bakery assortment for the table and pair it with the likes of eggs Benedict (which comes with organic Bayonne ham, Portobello mushroom and Hollandaise sauce) and chia-seed-infused yoghurt with blueberry, mint, coconut milk and fresh mango.

Wild Honey
custom

We’d be remiss if we didn’t include Wild Honey – one of the original all-day breakfast spots – on this list. Here, dishes are organised according to regions: the Caribbean is a tropical feast of coconut waffles with assorted fruits and zesty passion fruit jam, while the Scandinavian consists of salmon, asparagus, potato rosti and vine tomatoes. We also like the Mexican: a vegetarian breakfast burrito crammed with scrambled eggs, cheese and veggies.

Trade in the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle for a tranquil meal surrounded by lush greenery at Riders Café. Breakfast is served until 3pm, and you can find many of the usual suspects on their tightly curated menu: think creamy smashed avocado and feta on toast with poached eggs; brioche French toast with caramelised bananas, salted caramel ice cream and honeycomb; and potato rosti with poached eggs, sausage and bacon.

Gather
custom

Scrumptious crêpes, galettes and high-quality coffee are what you’ll discover at Gather, which is located in Raffles Arcade. Keep things simple with a plain crêpe served with sugar, butter and lemon, or go savoury with the Parma ham, cheddar and egg galette. For a bit of a local twist, you can order the kaya crêpe, which is slathered in a fragrant kaya jam, crème fraîche and butter. We like ours with an espresso or freshly squeezed orange juice.
