In October 2018, it was revealed that Korean pop star Goo Hara’s ex-boyfriend, Choi Jong-Beom, blackmailed the singer by threatening to release a sex tape the couple had made together. In fact, he allegedly said that he hoped to ruin her career as a celebrity with the tape.
Since then, the former member of girl band Kara has been fighting a legal battle with her ex-boyfriend. The singer has accused him of blackmail and assault. With the dispute playing out, Hara's agency decided to terminate her contract in January this year.
The singer was recently discovered unconscious in her home by her manager after an alleged suicide attempt when she stopped responding on her phone.
She was rushed to the hospital and is currently doing well, Hara released a statement about the incident, saying:
“I am sorry for causing concerns and a commotion. In terms of health, I am recovering … I had been in agony over a number of overlapping issues. But from now on, I will steel my heart and try to show up healthy.”
We wish her a speedy recovery.
This year, reports surfaced accusing K-Pop star, Seungri, of supplying prostitutes to clients who patronised his nightclub, Burning Sun, in 2015. He was also allegedly involved in drug trafficking, sex bribery and police corruption. This case is now known as the Burning Sun Scandal.
It later came out that the ex-Big Bang member was part of a chat group with fellow pop star Jung Joon-Young where he shared videos taken of women having sex with Joon-Young. These were videos taken without the permission or knowledge of the women involved. Seungri was charged for sharing these images and videos.
Investigations are still ongoing but Seungri has since retired from the entertainment industry. In fact, YG Entertainment has discontinued sales of merchandise which features Seungri and major networks and cables have done away with episodes that feature Seungri and Joon-Young.

The YouTube star and television actor frequently seen on Wah!Banana and Night Owl Cinematics was accused of sexually harassing an 18-year-old girl in 2018. The accuser was the girls' friend, who claimed via a Facebook post that her friend had been hired by Eden for his YouTube Channel.
However, she was inappropriately touched by him. At one point, Eden even allegedly demanded that the girl strip in from of him which she did out of fear of her boss.
Since then, other celebrities such as former nation athlete Nicolette Lim and Model Melissa Faith Yeo have come out to claim that Eden had also sent them inappropriate and sexually explicit messages.
Eden has since stopped posting videos on his channel and ceased updating on his social media.
Earlier this year, it was alleged that K-pop star Jung Joon-Young had secretly filmed himself having sex with 10 different women. He did this without their consent.
Joon-Young later went on to share the videos with friends in chat groups. Allegedly, participants of the chat group included fellow Korean celebrities such as Seungri and Choi Jong-hoon.
He was arrested in March this year in connection with the videos and later pleaded guilty to all 11 charges of secretly filming the women and sharing the videos.
However, it doesn’t end there. In April this year, a woman came forward claiming that she had been gang raped by five men. One of which she claims was Joon-Young. Investigations are ongoing.
Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to anyone. The superstar has been in the entertainment industry for over 25 years. However, what you might not know is that Jennifer once made a sex tape with her first husband, Ojani Noa.
The tape, which was consensual and made during the couple’s honeymoon, was locked up under a court order when Ojani threatened to release it.
Six years after this, Ojani found a loophole in that Jennifer had withdrawn all claims against him. He also claimed that only the master tape had been locked up but that copies of the film still exist.
Till today, the video has thankfully not been released.
Last year, Christabel Chua, or as she is more commonly known, @bellywellyjelly, opened up about how she had private sex videos of her leaked online.
The influencer, who was in a four year long relationship with Joal Ong, a YouTuber, had filmed and taken private videos and pictures with her then-boyfriend. However, a hacker managed to access Joal’s default Cloud backup system and stole and spread the videos.
Christabel, who then became a target for many explicit and inappropriate messages from Internet users, later published an open letter in Harper’s Bazaar. She said that she felt “scared, humiliated, violated” after the incident.
The Instagram model went on to urge people who have gone through similar situations to reach out to their family and friends and to seek legal action if possible. Christabel added that she wanted survivors of sexual harassment to know that she stood with them and that they were not alone.
In January 2006, American model and actress Carolyn Murphy’s ex-husband, Jake Schroeder, attempted to sell a sex tape of the duo. The tape was made during the couple’s honeymoon to Barbados.
Jake, who has one daughter with VH1/Vogue's 1998 Model of the Year, was thankfully arrested and charged with extortion for his attempts to sell the sex tape. The charges were later dropped.
However, these legal attempts proved to be fruitless when the video was leaked onto the internet in April 2006.

In September 2006, a video of Brazilian model and TV show hostess Daniella Cicarelli having sex on a beach with her boyfriend, was broadcast on television show Dolace Vita. The video, which was shot by a paparazzo on a beach in Spain, was later spread on sites such as YouTube.
Daniella immediately filed for legal action and in 2007, YouTube was blocked in Brazil for two days. 5.7 million users were affected by this.
Later in the year, YouTube won the case based on the fact that one should not expect privacy on a public beach. This ruling was later overturned.
